Deep Work & Focal Sessions
Focused Therapeutic Bodywork for Pain Relief, Recovery & Restoration
Deep Work is a results-oriented therapeutic massage approach designed to address chronic pain, persistent tension, and movement limitations. Sessions integrate deep tissue techniques, sustained and responsive pressure, and targeted treatment strategies to create meaningful, lasting change—while supporting nervous system regulation and overall resilience.
This work is ideal for clients seeking more than relaxation massage, including those managing ongoing pain patterns, high physical or emotional demand, or recovery from training, work strain, or repetitive stress.
What Makes Deep Work Different
Deep Work sessions are structured with clinical intention and adaptability, combining precision-based techniques with moment-to-moment responsiveness to your body. The goal is not to “push through” tissue, but to work effectively and intelligently—supporting release, function, and integration without overwhelming the system.
Each session is customized based on your goals, comfort level, and response to pressure, with ongoing communication throughout.
Modalities Integrated in Deep Work Sessions
Depending on your needs, Deep Work may incorporate one or more of the following evidence-informed and experience-based modalities:
Deep Tissue & Deep Pressure Techniques

These options are designed to support continuity of care, affordability, and cumulative improvement over time.
Focal Sessions
One modality. Your full hour. Nothing divided.
Most sessions ask you to choose a problem. This one asks you to choose an approach. The Focal Session gives a full hour to a single discipline — the way that modality is meant to be practiced, at full depth, without being folded into a broader treatment. For some clients this is the most direct route to what they need. For others it is the clearest way to find out what this work actually feels like before committing to more.

Craniosacral Therapy — Light-touch work with the craniosacral rhythm, cranial sutures, dural membranes, and sacrum. Practiced in the Upledger and Milne lineages.
Reflexology — Precise zone and reflex mapping of the feet and hands. Opens with a warm cleansing scrub and closes with hot stones and a foot wrap.
TMJ & Jaw Focus — Soft tissue work addressing the temporomandibular joint, muscles of mastication, suboccipitals, and related cervical patterns.
Facial & Intraoral Massage — Targeted buccal and facial soft tissue release for jaw tension, facial holding patterns, and craniofacial restriction.
Polarity Therapy — Energetic balancing and nervous system reset through contact and non-contact work with the body's bioelectric field.

Craniosacral Therapy
The stillest hour of your month.
Craniosacral therapy is light-touch work with the craniosacral rhythm — the subtle motion of cerebrospinal fluid and the membranes that contain it. The contact is gentle enough that clients new to the work sometimes wonder whether anything is happening. What is happening is a conversation with the autonomic nervous system rather than with muscle. Restriction in the cranial sutures, dural membranes, and sacrum influences how the entire system regulates itself. Releasing restrictions does not force change; it removes what has been preventing it.
C O M M O N L Y S O U G H T F O R
– Migraine and recurring headache patterns
– Jaw, neck, and suboccipital holding
– Post-concussion symptoms and head injury history
– Insomnia and difficulty settling at night
– Chronic stress and nervous systems that have been running hot
– Clients for whom deep pressure is unwelcome or contraindicated
W H A T T O E X P E C T
You remain fully clothed. Contact is sustained and light — typically at the head, sacrum, and along the spine. Most clients describe the experience as a deep, quiet reset, and many fall asleep. Effects often continue to unfold over the following two to three days.

Systemic work through a single point of contact. Reflexology maps zones and reflex points of the feet and hands to corresponding systems throughout the body. Precise, sustained pressure at these points supports systemic balance and can release stress held somatically.
The session is structured as a ritual with a clear arc. It opens with a warm cleansing scrub for the feet, and closes with hot stones and a foot wrap. Both are functional as well as restorative: the scrub prepares the tissue and the stones extend the parasympathetic shift the work has produced.
C O M M O N L Y S O U G H T F O R
– Clients who stand, walk, or are on their feet all day
– Stress and tension held somatically rather than structurally
– Profound relaxation while remaining largely clothed
– Sleep quality and general nervous system downshift
– Circulation and lower-limb heaviness
– A first experience of bodywork for clients new to touch therapy

You remain clothed from the ankles up. The hour opens with a warm cleansing scrub, moves into detailed reflex work through the feet, and closes with hot stones and a foot wrap. No oil is used on the body, and no draping is required.
Please note that if you have a nail fungus we may not be able to work with you. Please reach out ahead of your session. yourmassage@myopothecary.com

The temporomandibular joint is the most-used joint in the body and one of the least often treated. Jaw tension rarely stays local — it recruits the muscles of mastication, the suboccipitals, and the cervical spine, which is why so many tension headaches originate at the temples and resolve only when the jaw does.
This hour works that whole pattern rather than the joint alone: masseter and temporalis, the pterygoids as accessible externally, the suboccipital group, and the cervical structures that compensate for them.
C O M M O N L Y S O U G H T F O R
– Night grinding and daytime clenching
– Jaw clicking, catching, or limited opening
– Tension headaches originating at the temples
– Neck and upper cervical restriction tied to jaw holding
– Facial holding in people who talk, sing, or present for a living
– Post-dental and post-orthodontic tension
W H A T T O E X P E C T
This session addresses the jaw externally, through the face, neck, and cranial base. Clients wanting work inside the mouth should book Facial & Intraoral Massage instead. Avoid eating for 1–2 hours before your appointment.

Some muscles cannot be released from the outside. Intraoral work reaches the medial and lateral pterygoids and the deep buccal structures — muscles that hold significant jaw tension and that external work simply cannot access. For clients whose jaw pain has persisted through massage, dental treatment, or a night guard, this is frequently the missing piece. The session combines that intraoral release with facial and craniofacial soft tissue work, addressing the holding patterns that accumulate across the face, temples, and cranial base.
C O M M O N L Y S O U G H T F O R
– Persistent jaw pain unresolved by external work
– Post-dental, post-surgical, and post-orthodontic tension
– Chronic facial tightness and craniofacial restriction
– Limited jaw opening and long-standing bruxism patterns
– Facial holding in performers, speakers, and vocalists
W H A T T O E X P E C T
All intraoral work is performed with gloves, and consent is confirmed before the session begins. Work inside the mouth is a portion of the hour, not its entirety.
Avoid eating for 1–2 hours beforehand.
You may stop or redirect the work at any point.

The quietest door into somatic work.
Polarity therapy works with the body's bioelectric field through a combination of light contact and non-contact holds. Rather than changing tissue mechanically, it addresses the energetic organization underneath — how the system is distributing charge, where it is held, and where it has stopped moving.
For clients who find deep pressure unwelcome, overwhelming, or medically inadvisable, polarity offers a genuine route into nervous system work without force.
C O M M O N L Y S O U G H T F O R
– Nervous system reset without mechanical pressure
– Clients for whom deep tissue work is contraindicated
– Sustained stress, overwhelm, and difficulty settling
– A gentler entry point into somatic and energetic work
– Sensitivity, pain conditions, or recovery states requiring low load
W H A T T O E X P E C T
You remain fully clothed. The work consists of sustained holds — some in light contact, some just off the body. Many clients experience warmth, subtle movement, or a distinct settling. There is no pressure and no manipulation.
